They feel too similar to me. The biggest single issue is how I type Z, X, C, and V. I find that it takes me several mistakes before I make the mental shift, whether I’m going to the Keyboardio or from it.
That’s why I plan to use a keymap that is deliberately very dissimilar to QWERTY. I think all the layouts that try to change as little as possible, with the idea of making the transition easier, are misguided.
I had never heard of MessagEase, but got curious when I read your comment and tried it out, and now I’m hooked! 
You may be right. I have noticed that the feel of the keyboard makes a big difference to associating to the right layout. I frequenlty (have to) use laptop keyboards and rubber dome keyboards with a standard Finnish/Swedish layout, in addition to my mechnical Truly Ergonomic Keyboard (TEK) with US layout and custom changes, and no the Model 01. Switching between keyboard types has been suprisingly easy. One day recently I typed on another mechanical keyboard with a standard layout that felt pretty much the same as my TEK and my fingers got really confused. Until this experience, I hadn’t realized that the typing (where the fingers go) was so heavily linked to the feel of the keys.
