Hi I want to change my key switches to a) low profile b) silent c) linear.
As a newb I need help with 2 questions
Does Keyboardio Atreus have hot swappable key switches ?
If it varies how can I visually confirm it without risking breaking anything ?
What low profiles keyswitch types will be compatilble (without soldering) ?
I would appreciate if anyone can provide links to buy the compatible key-switches or has info on how-to guides.
The puller and extra switches don’t come with the board, but you can buy both from keyboardio separately (10 switches at a time).
Hot swappable is possible but I’m paranoid about doing it when the board is live and I might hit other keys and delete everything! It’s easy enough to just unplug the board and replug after with the only effect being that the board will revert to the default layer even if you left it somewhere else.
Yes : « The Keyboardio Atreus features hot-swap sockets designed to let you remove the switches with a standard keyswitch puller (not included) and replace them with just about any MX-style switch, no soldering or disassembly required. » That means you can change the switches easily (I don’t know if there is a good use-case for doing it with the keyboard plugged, but it is recommended to do it unplugged, «hot-swap» is for «no soldering»).
All the Keyboardio Atreus, Model100 and Preonic have the same hot-socket for the switches, so no risk of breaking if you go gently (and with a puller to get them out).
None : low profile key switches have a different shape and cannot go in MX sockets. You can go for any MX compatible switches from Keyboard.io (to support them ), or anywhere else (the choice of a key switch is very personal, welcome to this rabbit hole
