Hi, I am a brand new user of the Keyboardio Atreus, and I am excited to get started!
I am coming from the zsa ergodox and voyager (which I use every day and love), and I am confused about how to do things that are normally simple in the Oryx configurator – specifically how to set tapping term for mod keys. I cannot find the option to do so in Chrysalis.
I am not a programmer; I am just a guy who likes ergonomic ortholinear keyboards and have been looking for a good travel board with this layout. So I have no idea about github or compiling or anything like that. I just need to know the absolute easiest way to set the mod tap of my keys a little higher than the default. (Note in case it matters: I am a Mac user.)
Also, while we’re at it, is there any way to enable autoshift like in Oryx? That would help a lot as I get used to this tiny number of keys!
Seriously though, I could really use some help from anybody who can show me a straightforward guide for a nonprogrammer to adjust the tapping term. What’s easiest? Setting up Kaleidoscope? Using QMK? Anybody?
I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to by “tapping term”. But in general changing timeouts and other lower level details will require you to compile your own Kaleidoscope firmware to make changes.
For secondary modifier taps (tap a key for primary action, hold for modifier), you’ll likely need to make use of the Qukeys plugin. There are a number of settings that can be customized.
If you’ve never tried to compile firmware before, the Kaleidoscope Getting Statred guide provides some information for how to get started. However, it will be a learning curve, especially if you’ve never done anything like this before.
I’ve had luck with making a number of changes to Qukeys settings for the Atreus to get the behavior I was looking for. You can see my Kaleidoscope firmware customizations here.
I’m sorry nobody responded to this until recently - it can be a little quiet here! if you are on discord you might find the Keyboardio server a quicker way to access support.
