Why are there so few buckling spring keyboards?

Why is there no such thing as an “MX-style” buckling spring switch? Is it just not possible to package an actual buckling spring assembly inside a modern, modular style switch?

Is it not possible to design a modular key switch such that the tactile feedback is generated by the same mechanism which closes the circuit? Or at least tune the tactile mechanism such that both events reliably happen at the same time?

From what I can tell they need to be much taller than most existing switches, making them less practical.

Although I only took a passing interest, and am no expert on this topic.
