Different functionality when layer is locked vs held

Here’s another one that I’d like some feedback on how to crack:

My left fn shifts to FUNCTION layer
My right fn locks FUNCTION layer

This works great for text editing – sort of like a global vi mode.

The only issue is that fn + backspace is mapped to delete.
So when I have locked to function layer I have delete but no backspace.

When FUNCTION is locked, I’d like to keep backspace on the backspace key and have delete on fn + backspace.

Will I need a macro for that too? Or do you have any brilliant suggestions?

You could define fn on the function layer to be a macro that changes backspace to delete.
