For some years ago I mentioned that my Keyboardio 01 was not working. It is still the case and I have tried everything that I can think of, FN + Prog button and pressing the reset button. However, there are no signs of life.
Now I need some aid to use a multimeter to try to find the fault. But at wich points should I measure?
How unsatisfying to have it be dead just like that
If you are ready to pull out a multimeter, are you comfortable hooking up the Arduino via serial?
Some random thoughts:
You mention (in the other thread) that the ethernet between the halves had a problem earlier. Could there be an environment issue that degraded/oxidized electrical connectors?
Using a multimeter: I don’t have my 01 disassembled, maybe if I find time but I’ll be on holiday shortly. It should provide 5V between ground and… dunno which wire. Using a power-only USB cable there is no data wire with variable power, so you should be able to find which wire carries 5V
I use a magnetic USB connector. There is a thread where Jesse warns he got a report the board got fried on a user who also used such a connector, but he did not have further details. I’ve been using the magnetic connectors ever since, without a single problem, on first my 01 and now 100.
Getting back to the Arduino: do you have the means to connect it to your computer directly, instead of via the keyboard USB connector? You might find out whether it still reacts to any signal.
The Model 100 may be newer than the Model 01, but now I have both, I use the 01 in the office and on the road, while I leave the 100 for working and hobby at home. The 01 is still a perfect keyboard, it’s a waste if you can’t use it.
