Model 100 keycap profile/shape compared with Atreus

I love the feel of the keycaps shape on the Model 100. On the Atreus, however, my fingers get lost and I can barely feel the homing bars. I’m hoping to find an alternate keycap that would solve this for me on the Atreus.

Does anyone know what keycap profile shape the Model 100 uses? If I wanted keycaps with a more sculpted shape on the Atreus what kind of keycap should I be looking for?

For example, should I be looking for a “cylindrical” or “spherical” shaped keycaps? I don’t really know the difference even after reading descriptions. I just know I love the feel of the Model 100 keycaps and want something closer to that.

Thanks,
Michael

If you are looking for a sculpted keycap you might want to take a look at SA profile ones, I use these on my Planck. The Complete Guide to Keycap Profiles - HHKB

Hi @dshields, thanks for the info!

When ordering sculpted keycaps like SA, do you need to give special attention to ortholinear boards? It looks like many of the sculpted keycaps use different heights for the various rows. Is that generally a problem for a board like Atreus which is quite different from a traditional full size keyboard? Or do you generally order a full set of keycaps and have extras?

I’m only interested in blank keycaps so that I can arrange them in a comfortable way and not worry about which legends are where.

It does need a little attention to the keycap heights but most vendors are pretty good on stating if they’re otholinear friendly and which row each keycap occupies.

The thing you want to avoid is mixing different keycap rows . Saying that I’ve never had any problems. Vendors often offer add on caps, blanks etc. So that you can get exactly the layout you want.

If you are only interested in blanks you can just order the right number of each row and you’ll be fine.

I just remembered that I have an older CODE keyboard by WASD I’m not using. The keys are not quite as sculpted as the Model 100 keys, but they do provide some horizontal feel on the key tops (cylindrical maybe?) and they’re shaped slightly different on each row (mostly the height and angle).

After replacing the first three rows of keycaps with the WASD keycaps, I’m able to type much more fluidly on the Atreus and my fingers do not feel like they’re getting lost. Nice!

I left the bottom row with the default Atreus keycaps which feel good there. Plus, none of the remaining keycaps from the CODE keyboard were the correct shape for the bottom row (too high),

There’s no noticeable difference in overall height, which is nice.
