Model 100 USB-C port failure – part number inquiry

I emailed help@keyboard.io multiple times over the past two weeks with no response, which is why I am posting this here, though I’m not sure how well it fits as a forum post:

I have a Model 100 that has developed a hardware issue with the USB-C port. Over the past few weeks the connection became increasingly intermittent, and recently it would only work if I applied downward pressure to the cable. It has now stopped working entirely.

I’d like to have it repaired locally and need the part number for the USB-C receptacle used on the Model 100 PCB so I can source the correct replacement for a repair technician. Can you please advise me on the correct part to order for this repair?

Thank you!

Emily

Hi Emily,

Sorry to read about your keyboard, and sorry for the frosty welcome at the forum!

I got suggested a ‘related topic’ under your post that mentions the same problem on a Model 01, with a part number mentioned by Jesse.

It turns out that I posted there already what I had intended to mention: I use a magnetic USB connector. It doesn’t help you now, but you could look into it once your keyboard is repaired. Jesse has a report of a fried board, but I have been using it for years now without a problem. Mine is an “Essager” from Aliexpress, but the specific type is unfortunately sold out (I ordered the same connector for phones and ereaders, but now I ran out and could only order the micro-USB connector, no wires or USB-C)

I’m fortunate enough to still have my Model 01 for travelling after upgrading to Model 100 for at home. If there’s no one chiming in on whether the part changed between the generations, I’ll try to remember to open both to compare the connectors.
