Would adding layer switch to Esc interfere with firmware updates?

I’m using Chrysalis to modify my Atreus layout. I don’t like the default behavior where you have to hold down Fun and tap Esc to access Layer 2. I would like it to be an Esc key when I tap it, but take me to Layer 2 when I hold it down.

However, I know you have to hold down the Esc key in order to update the firmware in Chrysalis. Would remapping Esc in this fashion prevent future firmware updates? I’m afraid to test it myself!

No, it is the key in that lower left position, no matter if it is mapped to ESC or something else.

Additionally, the safety-interlock feature is implemented at a lower level, so it’s impossible to fully break it by changing your layout.
